For months this season, the morale among Southampton fans was at an all-time low due to the club’s predicament in the Premier League.

The coastal outfit looked destined for the Championship, but a winning result last week has completely turned the mood around.

Mark Hughes had not overseen one top-flight win since taking over as manager in March, but that changed when the club welcomed South-Coast rivals Bournemouth to St Mary’s last Saturday.

Dusan Tadic opened the scoring inside the first 25 minutes, but Joshua King managed to equalise for the Cherries before the half-time whistle.

Tadic was the saviour, though, as he netted in the second half to secure all three points for Southampton, who are now one point from safety with three games left to play.

The supporters found an unusual ally in Chelsea due to the Blues’ win over fellow relegation battlers Swansea City.

On Saturday, Southampton will travel to Merseyside to take on Everton at Goodison Park, and their latest triumph has certainly put confidence back into the fanbase.

Prior to the result, the supporters would regularly bash the team on social media, but just one win has made all the difference.
